Creator 4918 Jet

Just like with the 3 in 1 set for the car and truck we dissasembled the existing model, the rescue copter 4918 and tried another model with one of the other sets of directions. Justin was psyched to build this little jet and did a great job all by himself. I helped find some of the pieces because we had taken it and a couple other sets apart the day before and had to put away all the loose pieces before we could rebuild. It went quickly and Justin was zooming around the house in no time. I really like the intake vents on the forward part of the wings and the engine design on the tail of the fuselage.

Creator 4939 Truck

Justin and I took apart the remains of the car with the pop up doors from the 3 in 1 Creator set 4939 and decided to build one of the other models that the set had directions for. This Truck cab didn't take long at all to put together and Justin did a great job again being patient and following the directions. I reall like the swing out doors and the spoiler on the back of the cab. The only setback was that we were missing one of the one nub yellow angle pieces so we were short on the right side of the front bumper. I decided to use two of the dk grey pieces to make the bumper look more complete. Cool set.

City Fire Trucks! 7942 & 7239

Justin did both of these sets completely by himself. Just some supervision from Dad but otherwise he followed all of the directions and assembled all of the pieces himself. I did tie on the hoses to the small nozzle and reel pieces. These sets are really cool looking. The firemen minifigs are cool and have great equipment. We had several fires at the Police Station as soon as they were all put together... and Jenn was napping.

Mars Mission 7695

This was our first set in the Mars Mission collection and surely wont be our last. Justin likes these guys a lot and there are some really cool larger ships, both Astronaut and Alien in the collection. I like the new white/orange color scheme for the space stuff. Its a nice change from everything grey/blue/with yellow windows in the old sets. Justin likes that this set came with a cool green alien guy, and of course the Astronaut-Pilot, his ship, and very cool gold visor.

Recue Copter Creator 4918

Lego Recuse Copter. Justin put together just before I left for a long weekend trip. He's really getting good at following the pictoral directions without my help. This set was small enought that he could search for all the pieces he needed himself. I really like this helecopter. It looks just like the big Coast Guard Copters that roar past the bluffs by our house.

Lego Truck from the Past

Emergency Van 556
Dump Truck 6648

Fuel Pumper 554

More sets from my Lego past that I found the directions for online. I remember (vaguely) building these the first time. The Emergency Truck had almost 100% of its pieces. The other two were missing a few here and there but still came together well. Some of the Exxon stickers are still hanging on to the pieces.

Police Station 381

Found the directions to this set #381 from 1979 online and decided to build it for Justin. He helped out looking for pieces in our massive bucket but I ended up doing most of the construction myself after he went to bed. We have almost all of the pieces for the set, still in good condition. The only stuff I was short was one complete window setup and parts of another. But one is complete. There were also not enough of the blue cylinders used for lights... I had to substitute green for the lights next to the door. Justin was psyched. We've been playing with it for about a week now. I have some other old sets... to follow in later posts

Lego Cargo Ship

Justin and I built this cargo ship last week. His new Lego magazine came in with the brand new Maersk Container Ship in it and Justin decided we should build one out of our own stuff. So we did. He had a great time loading it up with stuff, mostly the small cars he had won at the Jugleplex food/fun day. I made the hatches detachable and later hinged. There is another shot without the yellow railings. I like it without, but once I found more of the railings we added them all the way down the deck.
This ship is now gone... a victim of the old lego set renaissance that followed. I found the instructions online for a number of my old sets and immediately set to work rebuilding them. More on that in the next few posts.

More Aquaraiders fun. 7771

Cool Minisub to go with our undersea squad. The fish is gnarly. Justin likes the big teeth. Reminds me of the "gooberfish" in SWI. More shots of the sub in with the whole crew. Cool shots of Justin and the building process. Good concentration. He's really doing better with getting some of the tougher pieces.

Aquaraiders Sub! 7774

Finally, a Yellow Submarine! Justin and I had a great time building this set. We took a Saturday and just went slowly but surely. Justin showed terrific patience, following over 100 steps! I really like the skeleton minifig, a cool touch for this set. There are a few extra running lights on the con tower in the middle two shots. The Aquaraiders rule... and that crab is pretty awesome too.

Crane Truck Creator 4891

This was another birthday Creator Set. We had fun building this one. Actually we built this as the car carrier first, but I don't think I took a picture of it. The crane really looks cool. Like the other Creator set this one had a lot of the small triangular pieces (like the crane cab).

Creator 4939

A creator set that we built in May of 07 on Justin's birthday.
The first real set that Justin put together with my help finding
the pieces. Cool car with flip up doors.
